The Quiberon peninsula is on the southern side of Finistère, near Carnac. It is 14km long, and connected to mainland france only by a bank of sand. Entrance to the peninsula is overseen by the 19th century Fort de Penthièvre. The western coast is altogether more dramatic and a popular site for water sports, especially surfing and sailing. It is best explored on foot, passing if possible by Kervihan, kerné and Kerniscop for some of the most dramatic scenery.
